Our Fact-Check Process
1. Source Identification
Before drafting, our editors identify primary sources for all material claims. Secondary sources (news reports, analysis) are used only when primary sources are unavailable and are clearly attributed.
2. Verification
Each verifiable claim is checked against its primary source. Discrepancies between sources are flagged, investigated, and either resolved or disclosed in the article.
3. Attribution
Every material claim in our articles includes either an inline link to the source or a named attribution. We do not publish sourced claims without identifying the source.
4. Post-Publication Monitoring
We monitor published articles for developments that may affect the accuracy of reported facts. When facts change after publication, articles are updated with dated notes.
Breaking News
For breaking news, we prioritize speed alongside accuracy. When publishing before full verification is possible, we clearly label coverage as developing and note which claims are unconfirmed.
As verification completes, developing labels are removed and unconfirmed claims are either confirmed, corrected, or removed with a note.
AI-Assisted Research
We use AI tools to assist research — summarizing documents, identifying relevant data, and drafting outlines. All AI-generated content is reviewed and verified by human editors before publication. AI outputs are treated as starting points, not sources.
When We Make Mistakes
Despite our process, errors occur. When they do, we correct them transparently. See our corrections policy for how we handle errors.
